Program: Partial Hospitalization (Day Treatment)

| "I liked this
program because I got to practice the things I learned in therapy during
the day, at home at night. It was a very worthwhile program for me." |
Parkwood Day Treatment Program
Where You Become Your Hope
A SENSITIVE APPROACH TO TREATMENT
At Parkwood, we believe in offering more options to our patients to make our
programs more accessible and our treatments more effective, while
maintaining high levels of quality care. The seven day a week day
treatment program at Parkwood Hospital offers a unique option in the
treament of psychiatric, substance abuse and addition problems to adults,
youth and pre-adolesents. It combines
elements of the traditional models of inpatient hospitalization and
outpatient counseling. Patients admitted into this program attend all
therapeutic activities with others in the treatment community during the day
and return home in the evenings. These activities include individual
therapy, group therapy, family therapy and recreational therapy. These
combined activities help provide instruction and direction for living
happier, healthier, and more productive lives. |

BENEFITS TO THE PATIENT AND FAMILY
Patients in the Parkwood Day Treatment Program have the benefit of participating
in all organized therapeutic activities of the treatment community 7 days a
week. The difference is they can return home in the evening and do not require
residency or monitoring by the treatment team 24 hours each day. The benefit of
returning home allows for more appropriate transition back into daily
activities. While the day treatment program is less restrictive, patients have
more opportunity to use their tools of recovery as they learn them. Patients and
families are encouraged to take part in their choice of a variety of support
groups, as well as regular aftercare meetings. Our staff educates family members
on the patient’s treatment goals and needs. Just as important, counselors assist
family members in working through their own feelings about the process.
Educating the families can provide patient’s additional support and structure to
aid them in their journey to recovery. The day treatment program is also less
restrictive, giving patients more opportunity to use the tools of recovery as
they are learning them. At Parkwood, we believe in offering each patient the
least restrictive, most cost-effective treatment available to best meet their
individual needs.
