Program: Assessment

Assessment and Referral Services are offered through one of our outreach assessment and referral centers or an assessor at Parkwood.

Following an assessment, a treatment option is recommended that best meets the emotional and physical needs of the client.

Inpatient Care offers a safe, structured environment with treatment administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals.  Therapeutic components may include individual, group and family therapy, and activity therapy.

Partial Hospitalization provides traditional models of inpatient care during the day, with patients returning home in the evening.  This program is less restrictive, giving patients more opportunity to use the tools of recovery as they are learning them.

Residential Treatment Program (Adolescents only) is provided when an adolescent needs a longer less restrictive environment than provided by inpatient care.  This option provides a safe living environment for adolescents’ ages 12-17 so they can receive professional behavioral healthcare in a caring group setting. This level of care allows more time to address treatment that is unable to be met in shorter acute stays.

Intensive Outpatient Program is designed to provide
treatment for the chemically dependent, their families and the dually
diagnosed. The program serves adults age 18 and older, who are not in
acute situations, yet need intensive therapy and structure to meet
treatment needs. This program also provides a less restrictive level
of care for those patients who are transitioning from acute or
residential care and need continued treatment. The program provides
intensive treatment while adults maintain their jobs and family obligations.

The Parkwood Continuum of care is designed to make behavioral health care available at different levels of need.

It is easy to access the full range of Parkwood’s levels of care.

It starts with a phone call

When you or someone you love is experiencing emotional, behavioral or addictive disease problems, it is hard to know what to do.  That is why Parkwood offers a no-charge assessment to help you determine what is needed and what the next step should be.

What is an Assessment?

Your call will be answered by a trained assessment coordinator who will ask you a few questions in order to determine how to schedule your assessment, or refer you to another appropriate source of care.  During the assessment, a mental health professional will help you determine the next appropriate step for you.

What Determines the Referral?

Based on the information obtained during your assessment, you may be referred to a support group, therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist or other mental health professional for outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, residential or inpatient treatment. In any case, you and your family will participate in deciding which level of care in the most appropriate for your individual circumstances.
